Handicap Averages

We calculate your handicap index based on the USGA handicap formula.  This requires several pieces of information from the course you are playing:

  • Course rating
  • Slope rating
  • Tees played

For most of the courses on My Golf Notes we have this information, and you can check by finding your course on The Course Pages.  If you can’t find your course, you can also request that we add a new course to our database.

If we don’t have the information for a particular course or tee we can still calculate a handicap.  We do this by calculating the averages of course rating and slope rating for a particular tee across every course in our database.  This number won’t be specific to the course you played, but still give you a rough idea of your handicap.

Below are the current averages we use for our calculations when needed.
